Almost two months ago, Phil Spencer – the head of Xbox – appeared in a Microsoft stream and had a shelf in that stream. It may not seem like much, but in the past, Phil used his shelves to tease, or even shyly reveal, various Xbox surprises – like the Xbox Series S, which he had on his shelf long before the official unveiling. . Bethesda’s big dog, Todd Howard, even took a page out of Phil’s book in September 2020, teasing the new Indiana Jones game with a relic on the shelf.
So when Phil appeared on a creek, fans of the eagle-eyed investigation rummaged through his shelves for anything they could find. Two elements stood out: a Kojima Productions Ludens figure and a Nintendo Switch. At the time, I wasn’t saying anything – we’re not about to pull out any news from a video game company boss who enjoys other companies’ video games – but as time went on, the Switch began to seem like maybe it was a hint as well.
In a recent podcast for GamesBeat, journalist Jeff Grubb said that “almost everything” on Phil’s shelves means something. inclusive Nintendo Switch. Similarly, a famous and (according to Reddit) semi-recognized called “Shpeshal Ed” said that “the cat seems to be out of the bag” regarding the Xbox and Nintendo and that we will hear more in the fall. Sure, it’s still a rumor, but there’s evidence that Phil did suggest something.
But just saying that Xbox and Nintendo work together could mean anything. Chief Master in Smash. Xbox Game Pass on Switch. A hybrid Xbox-Nintendo console called the Xbox Series N. A new Zelda set in the Halo world. Or maybe Microsoft is willing to sell Rare back to Nintendo and we’ll eventually get a new Banjo-Kazooie.
