Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s lawyer, is charged with defamation

From plaintiffs to defendants, Trump’s legal team is facing lawsuits involving millions of dollars in defamation. There are already two lawyers accused of profiting from a disinformation campaign that sold the theory of an alleged nonexistent electoral fraud.

Donald Trump’s Personal Attorney, Rudy GiulianiFaces, a billionaire was charged with defamation after participating in the disinformation campaign about an alleged electoral fraud in the last US election, which has never been proven in the country’s courts.

The plaintiff is Dominion Voting Systems, one of the election equipment manufacturers who became the prime target of conspiracy theories of Trump’s legal team. Giualiani and his company claimed that Dominion fixed the machines to favor Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

The more than 60 lawsuits brought by Trump’s team to the courts of the disputed states led to embarrassing defeats for the former president, as the theory of alleged electoral fraud has never been proven due to lack of evidence. Now Dominion is demanding $ 1.3 billion to compensate for the damage to its reputation.

‘As a result of the defamatory lies sold by Giuliani, Dominion’s founder and employees have been harassed and threatened with death, and Dominion has suffered unprecedented and irreparable damage, ”the company said. “Dominion is presenting this action to clarify things, defend the rights of the companies, recover compensatory and punitive damages, and defend itself, its employees and the election process,” added Dominion presenting the lawsuit.

Giuliani thus becomes the second member of Trump’s legal team to be charged with “profiting from a disinformation campaign.” Just two weeks ago, attorney Sidney Powell, who nurtured the electoral fraud theory and wanted to quash the election results in favor of the former president, was also indicted by Dominion to the tune of $ 1.3 billion.

“Powell falsely claimed that Dominion faked the election, that Dominion was formed in Venezuela to disrupt Hugo Chávez’s elections, and that Dominion bribed Georgia officials into a no-bid contract,” the lawsuit against Powell states said.

These two lawsuits could lead Giuliani and Powell to overrule their baseless attacks on Dominion and the transparency of the electoral system. Some media outlets have already begun to apologize for participating in this disinformation campaign for fear of multi-million dollar lawsuits such as those that fell into the former president’s legal team.
