Rudy Giuliani charted a very bad course in the morning papers, Rove said, noting comments from the attorney who suggested the president could not have caused the deadly riots in the Capitol earlier this month because his unproven allegations of election theft were true . Last week, the House accused Trump of his role in the riots, making him the only president to be impeached twice.
The election fraud argument, Rove noted on Sunday, “has been rejected by more than 50 courts,” including some Trump-appointed officials.
A Giuliani defense, he added, “increases the likelihood that more than 17 Republicans will vote for conviction.”
Giuliani also told ABC News that he is working to defend Trump against allegations and that the president could not have incited the crowd because they did not immediately march to the Capitol after his speech at a rally.
‘You should let people run out. You should let people run out of that frozen speech up to the Capitol, and that’s basically incitement, ”he said.
The former New York City mayor spoke at the same rally and called for “trial by combat”.
‘I’m willing to risk my reputation, the president is willing to risk his reputation for the fact that we’re going to find crime [in the election], ”he said at the time.
Speaking to Brett Samuels from The Hill last week, Giuliani stressed that the term was a reference to the HBO series “Game of Thrones” and not a literal invocation of violence.
