The elected senator and now the owner senator, Rosamar Trujillo Plumey, was able to swear today as well as his colleagues, being able to deliver the only missing document to receive the official certification by the State Electoral Commission (EEC).
“I thank each of the citizens who gave me the vote of confidence to represent them as a district senator. Today I assure you that I will work tirelessly for each of you and to restore the trust of your legislators to our people in Puerto Rico, ”he said in written statements.
This morning, Trujillo Plumey was the only elected senator unable to complete the oath-taking process because the chartered public accountant was unable to submit a financial report to the State Electoral Commission to be finally certified.
Trujillo Plumey was sworn in in the Senate chamber, along with Legislative Secretary Manuel Torres. The new senator tried to place a photo of her deceased parents nearby: former Humacao mayor Rosamar Trujillo Plumey and Rosa Elena Plumey.

Governor Pedro Pierluisi’s historic day began early in the morning, when he arrived at the Supreme Court to attend the official deposition before Judge Maite D. Oronoz Rodríguez.
-
Pierluisi then moved to the Capitol, where he will attend the symbolic swearing-in ceremony before about 400 guests, despite active restrictions that prevent crowds from preventing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
-
Before stepping on the steps of the House of Laws to begin the ceremony, Pierluisi received a commemorative document to mark the historic occasion.
-
The activity finally started around 11:00 with the departure from Pierluisi to the prepared platform in front of the Chapter.
-
The fun of the event was the task of veteran composer, singer-songwriter and producer Ángel “Cucco” Peña, who directed the members of the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra.
-
The ceremony was attended by important public and political figures, such as the outgoing governor Wanda Vázquez Garced, in a cream-colored dress.
-
Vázquez Garced was appointed governor of Puerto Rico in August 2019, following the resignation of Ricardo Rosselló Nevares.
-
Several former governors also appeared, such as former leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PPD), Aníbal Acevedo Vilá (left) and Alejandro García Padilla (right).
-
Former New Progressive Party (PNP) governor Luis Fortuño and his wife, Lucé Vela, also attended the ceremony.
-
Washington resident commissioner Jenniffer González was present, but would later return to the United States to be sworn in for third place.
-
During the official ceremonies, various guests from different sections of the population of Puerto Rico gave speeches.
-
The symbolic oath finally began at 11:30 a.m., when Pierluisi placed his left hand on a Bible held by his side, engineer Jorge Pierluisi Díaz, and in front of Supreme Court President Maite D. Oronoz Rodríguez.
-
After completing the symbolic act and hearing at least 12 cannon shots, Pierluisi offered his first message to the country as the owner governor.
-
In the message, Pierluisi said that he will administer a government without corruption, diverse and inclusive and that he will fight with all the “enemies” of Puerto Rico, internal or external.
-
Among the “enemies” he mentioned were crime, failures in the education system, the island’s political status vis-à-vis the United States, the island’s economy and reconstruction since the devastating passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017.
-
He also stressed that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Puerto Rico will be one of his priorities.
-
He also acknowledged the diversity of the legislature and promised to work to finalize the agreements for the benefit of Puerto Rico.
-
Unlike previous vows, Pierluisi chose to drive the road from the Capitol to La Fortaleza. The governor then walked from Fortaleza Street to his new residence on foot.
-
Before reaching the Palace of Santa Catalina, Pierluisi and his sister, Caridad entered the Church of the Servants of Mary, located near the governor’s residence, to pray and receive blessings.
-
Due to active restrictions by Vázquez Garced’s last executive order, the crowd was not allowed to receive Pierluisi in front of La Fortaleza.
-
Despite the restrictions, a large group of journalists and guests greeted him as he entered the gate.
-
Similarly, Pierluisi was received by several members of his family.
-
Pierluisi greeted one of his relatives on arrival at La Fortaleza.
-
As usual, Pierluisi went out on the main balcony of the residence to greet those present.
-
Pierluisi took the opportunity to present the mascot La Fortaleza and his family, Amaia.
-
Although she has a large family, not all members were pregnant during the ceremony.
-
The new governor greets the people present.
-
In this way, Pedro Pierluisi became the 12th governor of Puerto Rico under the Commonwealth Constitution (ELA).
