Revealed the game and graphics changes Resident Evil 4 VR

Oculus has announced a number of new details regarding Resident Evil 4 VR, including details on graphics updates, game changes and more.

Originally announced during the presentation of Capcom’s Resident Evil Village, Oculus revealed new details during its presentation of live stream games today.

Although we already knew that Resident Evil 4 VR will have a first-person perspective, along with tactile controls that allow you to manipulate weapons, objects and puzzles, the main new updates are some key graphics improvements.

Resident Evil 4 VR will also run at a frequency higher than 30 fps of the original. Oculus did not specify a specific frequency, but Oculus Quest 2 can reach 70fps, depending on the game. Oculus also suggested that RE4 VR will be the full game and that no content has been cut to fit the restructured presentation.

Motion options include the ability to move in the first person using the analog stick or using a teleportation feature that shows Leon running before his position before moving on to your new view. RE4 VR also supports room-scale VR, which will help you when hiding in a corner against the Las Plagas chain saw.

If you prefer to relax your knees, you can also play RE4 VR in sitting mode.

While the basic gameplay systems of Resident Evil 4 are back, Capcom and Armature Studios have improved textures and art in the game to better match the near vision. Over 4,500 textures were either repainted or had a higher resolution.

Other changes to Resident Evil 4 VR include:

  • Enemy behavior has been rebalanced to better suit the new gameplay.

  • Other gameplay changes include the ability to take alternate weapons from the body, rather than entering a menu. Weapons and objects have been “redesigned” to be physical objects that you can interact with in the environment. The inventory menu is now an interactive screen that appears in front of your face, but which closely resembles the original grid.

  • Now you can use two-handed weapons.

  • The cutscenes will be left intact in their original format, and the character animations will remain untouched, although updated to Unreal Engine 4.

  • Yes, you can type on the typewriter.

Ruth Bram, executive producer of Oculus, said the game has been in development for “a few years” in collaboration between Capcom, Oculus and Armature Studios.

The original horror survival classic debuted on the Nintendo Gamecube in 2005, 16 years ago, featuring RE2’s Leon Kennedy on a mission to save the president’s daughter from a monstrous cult in rural Europe. Resident Evil 4 is widely considered to be one of the most popular games in the Resident Evil franchise.

Resident Evil 4 VR will be released on Oculus Quest 2 “later this year”.
