Cary, NC – Cary Police Retired Captain Jerry Lynn McCormick was charged with driving while being harmed on New Year’s Day by Cary Police.
McCormick, 56, was involved in an accident with another car at the intersection of Tryon Road and Kildaire Farm Road, officials said. No injuries were reported in the crash.
He has been a police officer in North Carolina for more than 30 years and retired as captain of the Cary Police Department in 2019, according to his online resume.
When contacted by telephone on Saturday morning, McCormick apologized for his actions.
“I’m sorry it happened,” McCormick said Saturday morning. “It was a bad judgment on my part.”
The incident had nothing to do with the city of Cary, he said, and he pointed out that he had been retired for more than a year.
