Private coach John Beck, a former NFL quarterback who played at the then offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Washington, has been working with Ohio defender Justin Fields this season. Beck remains close to Shanahan and has worked with North Dakota defender Trey Lance in recent weeks.
It’s not a coincidence.
Fields and Lance are among the most likely prospects to be selected 3rd overall by the San Francisco 49ers. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports that Lance worked with Beck at the request of the Niners.
San Francisco provided Beck with a list of exercises they wanted to see from Lance, which means they were heavily involved in planning Monday’s workout.
š§µ I am told that the 49ers are extremely involved in the Trey Lance training scheduled for Monday. Lance, who works with QB coach Quincy Avery, has spent the past two weeks working with QB coach John Beck. Kyle Shanahan coached Beck in Washington a decade ago and trusts him.

I was told that Lance started working with Beck at Shanahan’s request and that the Niners coaching staff gave Beck a list of exercises they wanted Lance to work on before Monday’s training. Indeed, the 49ers designed the training and will have a helping hand in managing it.

Other teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, are also expected to participate Monday.
Other teams, including the Falcons and Washington, are expected to participate, according to sources, but obviously Lance is being examined for the 49 from election no. 3.

It is worth mentioning, of course, that Beck also works with Justin Fields, who, along with Mac Jones, is also considered for the 49th election no. 3.

“I know how he will train the quarterbacks,” Beck said recently about Shanahan in an interview with The Athletic. “I know what he’s looking for. So I think it’s a slight extension of Kyle in terms of the eyes I have for defenders.”
San Francisco’s heavy involvement in planning Lance’s second professional day could indicate that the team is really serious about the fact that the former Bison is an option for general election no. 3.
The 2021 NFL project begins on April 29 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Zierlein: Trey Lance is the perfect player for Kyle Shanahan’s 49th birthday

It’s been almost two weeks since Nance Media analyst Lance Zierlein released his latest fake sketch. In it, he had 49ers from San Francisco selecting Trey Lance from the state of North Dakota with general election no. 3 in place of Justin Fields of Ohio or Mac Jones of Alabama. It doesn’t look like what coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch should do on April 29th. While Zierlein’s colleagues Steve Wyche and Maurice Jones-Drew created excellent cases for Fields to be San Francisco’s choice, Zierlein stayed with Lance’s choice and defended the decision during a segment on the NFL Network. “This is the type that San Francisco should have

Justin Fields of Ohio State will hold a second professional training session on Wednesday. Five days later, Trey Lance of North Dakota will attend the second. Both are trying to make sure they are selected before Mac Jones of Alabama. Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is expected to be named 1st overall. The New York Jets are expected to pick ZU Wilson from BYU in 2nd place. Assuming San Francisco targets a defender, who leaves Jones, Fields and Lance as San Francisco picks in 3rd place. Jones is the overwhelming favorite of choice if you ask members of the national press. Fans would much prefer more athletic prospects and a higher ceiling in Fields or Lance. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch chose to attend Jones
