There is now a high, if not likely, chance for Phillip Lindsay to leave the Denver Broncos this season.
Conformable media reports, Broncos on Monday launched an original auction – worth $ 2.133 million for 2021 – on the restricted free agent running back.
This means that the team will be entitled to the first refusal if Lindsay signs an offer sheet with an outside claimant, but Denver would not receive compensation if the sheet is not suitable. (You may recall that the Broncos nearly lost CJ Anderson to the Dolphins in 2016 after choosing not to offer him in the second round.)
Compare that to a $ 3.384 million second-round bid that would have thrown the Broncos a second-round draft pick or, at worst, would have ensured Lindsay’s return to the season. future.

Lindsay, twice back in the 1,000 yards and a former Bowler pro, avoided a 2020 campaign that affected the injury and disappointed statistically, in which the Colorado product collected just 502 yards and a touchdown on 118 attempts ( eight games). He added seven receptions for 28 yards, losing the duty to catch him in front of veteran Melvin Gordon, who led the Broncos with 1,144 meters of scrimmage and 10 total scores (nine rushes).
But Lindsay has become increasingly dissatisfied with her position – or lack thereof – in the organization, publicly expressing her dissatisfaction on numerous occasions this season. The writing, probably on the wall, hinted at a divorce in Denver during a March 10 interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“What else can I do? What else can I show?” Lindsay answered when asked if she felt wanted.
Assuming Lindsay is indeed a pant, the Broncos are expected to advance into the position with Gordon, who is still facing potential league discipline in connection with his drunk driving arrest last October. (Gordon was released on DUI charges.)
The team also has Royce Freeman under contract until 2021, although it becomes likely that the Broncos will address the position in next month’s project.
Lindsay’s contract move ends a hectic day for Broncos’ new CEO George Paton, who re-signed defender Shelby Harris, brought him on board Ronald Darby’s corner, turned down Kareem Jackson’s safety option and second round bid, RFA defender Alexander Johnson and wide receiver Tim Patrick.
