rejects lack of insurance – After Gautier’s emergency fight, center clarifies death of patient

Salvador B. Gautier Hospital denied that the death of Mr. Ubaldo Ventura Sarita, 57, when he was being treated in the triage area of that health center, was due to a lack of medical insurance.

He claimed that the patient was taken to the emergency room around 11:00 last Wednesday night, in a 911 unit, dying two hours later after a cardiorespiratory arrest, as a result of an intestinal obstruction.

According to the medical staff report, Mr Ventura, who according to his relatives had been suffering from abdominal pain for five days, underwent rigorous tests when he arrived at the hospital, but while the results were expected around 12:30 in the morning, shortly before moving him to the yellow emergency area, he asked to go to the bathroom, vomited and fainted, so he was transferred to a stretcher and tried a resuscitation for about 30 minutes, but unfortunately expired.

The situation degenerated into an incident in the triage area where relatives became aggressive and scared the medical staff, leading to a fight with security members, the center said in a statement.

At that time two emergency windows were broken, so the police had to intervene and one of them was arrested, who was released yesterday after agreeing to pay for infrastructure damage through his lawyer.

The center denies that the death occurred because the patient did not have health insurance. They explain that the health center takes care, without distinction, with insurance and without insurance, of all those who need a health service.
