Record a video of a bright meteor passing through Puerto Rico

A spectacular bright meteor was visible over Puerto Rico at 11:21 p.m. last Sunday, January 24, according to the Caribbean Astronomy Society (SAC)

This indicated that the car was visible all over the island, looking southwest. “It was really bright, because the images show that it briefly illuminated other areas of the sky,” the organization said.

Reports indicate that during the brief moments when it was visible, the meteor showed beautiful colors that seemed to alternate between blue-green turquoise, then yellow-orange and turquoise again, as seen in the images captured by the educational entity.

“After analyzing the trajectory of the meteor, it was confirmed that it came from the constellation of Cancer, so it was another ‘Delta Cancrid’, as well as other bright meteors seen in the last nights on the island,” said SAC.

The fragments caused by Delta Cancrids have an orbit similar to that of the asteroid 2001 YB5, so it is possible that they are debris released by this space rock. The organization had anticipated that there would be a chance to see another bright meteor until January 24, as it happened. However, the remarkable activity of bright meteors suggests that additional meteors will be seen for at least a few weeks, it was noted.
