11.30: Tense opening time
It was an absorbing start to this test, with a bit of life on the field, which means a good battle between the bat and the ball. Matthew Wade, who played very well for an hour, gave up his counter by lifting R Ashwin in his arm, where Ravindra Jadeja clung to a superb catch, despite the fact that he almost collided with Shubman Gill. In an interesting move by Ajinkya Rahane, who replaced Virat Kohli as captain, he brought Ashwin in the first hour and there was an early offer. Umesh Yadav was not as consistent as Jasprit Bumrah, but two gates are a good reward for India and put pressure on Australia.
11.00: Early strike for India
India was rewarded for a good early bowling, eliminating Joe Burns for a duck. Jasprit Bumrah was a great challenge with the new ball and found a thin edge from Burns in his third to make them turn back to Boxing Day for the opener. There is an encouraging pace and encouragement on the ground, with signs that India can do the hard work. Matthew Wade looked very confident, highlighting a few sweet shots in front of Umesh Yadav.
Burns’ second consecutive duck, except this time, lasted 10 balls and then fished for the ball that caught him. Credit for Bumrah’s lines and lengths so far #AusvInd

10.15: Remembrance of Deano
Here’s MCG’s Dan Brettig on how one of Australia’s greats will be honored
Tributes to Dean Jones will take on various dimensions during the test. An entire bay of MCG seats was handed over to a large image of Jones, while spectators were encouraged to “galvanize” in homage to Jones’ habit of doing the same when he played. Jones ‘family will be present at MCG for the match, with a video tribute scheduled for 3:24 p.m., which will recognize Jones’ green cap number and also the highest score of 324 against South Australia in a day / night Sheffield Shield match at MCG in 1994-95.
10.05: the first bat in Australia
The coin fell in favor of Tim Paine and he was happy to strike first. Wonder of Ajinkya Rahane was glad he didn’t have to make the decision. If there is an early life, Jasprit Bumrah should be able to find it.
Here’s a little more about India’s other debutant, Mohammed Siraj
9.50am: Pitch report
Damien Fleming, on Channel Seven, says there is 11 mm of grass on this ground. This may interest fast boliers on both sides, but it is certainly a bat on the first day. It is a clear, sunny and warm day. India must put that Adelaide battle performance behind them as soon as possible.
12:31
“Australia has obvious holes that India can continue to exploit”
9.30: Boxing Day at G
A perfect day for the Boxing Day test at “G.

Welcome, everyone, to one of the iconic days of the cricket calendar: Boxing Day at MCG. For a long time it seemed that this would not happen, so it is wonderful that the series has arrived here and that we will have 30,000 viewers. Just to recap the situation we are in in this contest – India needs to find a way to come back from being grouped for the lowest test score (36) in Adelaide a week ago. We already know that they have made four changes in trying to do this – two of them applied in the absence of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami – but it will be a daunting task. Australia is still without David Warner and has named an unchanged team. Not often do you have both XIs confirmed 24 hours into the game. The throw is half an hour away.
India will have two newcomers: Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj. If you want to learn more about Gill, an extremely talented handkerchief, take a look at this piece below.
