RD will build a “double perimeter fence” on the border with Haiti

President Luis Abinader announced that in the second half of 2021 a double perimeter fence will begin to be built on the dividing line between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

During the presentation of the accounts to the National Assembly, the president said that the new measures to strengthen security will combine physical and technological means, “and will include a double perimeter fence in the most conflictive sections and a simple one in addition to motion sensors. , facial recognition cameras, radars and infrared systems ”.

“However, in a period of two years, we want to put an end to the serious problems of illegal immigration, drug trafficking and the transit of stolen vehicles that we have suffered for years and to achieve the protection of our territorial integrity. we have sought since our independence, “the president said.

He said they were determined to maintain mutually beneficial relations with Haiti, with which just over a month ago “an unprecedented agreement was signed to support the identification of documents in their country” of citizens who find out about the territory. Dominican; the sale of energy and the installation, in international cooperation and in coordination with the government, of maternity hospitals on the Haitian side of the border, which can provide services to their women, in decent conditions and avoiding the saturation of health services. .

The first of these hospitals will be in Juana Méndez, Haiti, on the northern border, where there is already localized land and approval in principle by the Haitian government and in the coming months construction could begin with the contribution of the international community.
