Queen Elizabeth hires the “Tsar of Diversity” after Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview

The queen will be called a “tsar of diversity” after Meghan Markle accused the royal family of racism during her interview with Oprah, Mail On Sunday reported, quoting from inside the palace.

In addition to employment, the monarchy will engage in a future “listening and learning” exercise in which family members will “seek independent views” on how it can improve diversity efforts involving minorities and the LGBT community, said the sources.

“This is an issue that has been taken very seriously in all households,” a palace source told Mail on Sunday. “We have policies, procedures and programs in place, but we have not seen the progress we would like and we accept more to do. We can improve at any time.

“We are not afraid to look at new ways of approaching it. The work to do this has been going on for some time and comes with the full support of the family. ”

The diversity plan follows allegations by the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s husband in a March 12 interview with Oprah Winfrey that there have been conversations between the royal family about how dark their son Archie’s skin would be. Prince Harry also said that racism played a role in the couple’s decision to flee London to California.

The interview sparked widespread reactions, including calls from Commonwealth nations to relinquish Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.

In an official statement issued by the 94-year-old monarch following the interview, she said the allegations of racism were “related” and “will be addressed by the family privately.”
