Russian President Vladimir Putin now says he will receive his country’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, a month after he said he would not be injected with it.
A Kremlin spokesman told a Russian state television channel about the reversal.
“He made this decision and waited until all the formalities were completed,” said Dmitry Peskov.
The 68-year-old leader worked remotely and largely avoided travel since the beginning of the pandemic. He said that one of his daughters participated in the clinical trial for the Sputnik V vaccine, which the country claims is more than 90% effective, and she felt good afterwards.
Russians over the age of 60 can begin applying for gunfire Monday, a day after health officials approved the vaccine for the elderly following a separate trial.
Russia has about 2.8 million cases of coronavirus and about 49,000 deaths caused by the virus, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
