Puerto Rico gets its second victory in the Caribbean Series

The Puerto Rican Creoles got their second victory in the 2021 Caribbean Series with score 6-4 on hosts Tomateros de México, at Teodoro Mariscal Stadium in Mazatlán.

The Puerto Ricans were placed at the gate of qualifying for the second round last night and ranks second in the tournament with a 2-1 record, along with Chiriquí Federals, representatives of Panama.

Shortstop Edwin Díaz scored three of Criollos’ six races and hit two with a home in the second half. Meanwhile, the veteran pitcher Héctor Santiago won by 6.1 innings in which he gave way to four races and seven unknowns.

The relay looked impressive again, with an excellent lead from Anthony Maldonado, Rayan González and Fernando Cruz, who scored the second save.

The Puerto Rican team took the lead in the fifth half, when, with the score two laps away, Jarren Durán hit a triple that led the lead from Diaz’s feet. Then, Machín’s single brought the fourth touchdown, and Reymond Fuentes’ sacrifice produced the fifth line, marked by Yadier Molina.

In the seventh half, Tomateros closed the game with two touchdowns, a double by Jesús Fabela and a single by Sebastián Elizalde.

Puerto Rico was the first to score in the second half, with Diaz at home with a runner on base. In the same episode, Mexico reacted and got two rounds to balance the shock.

Criollos will have his fourth engagement today, Wednesday, in front of Barranquilla Caimans, representatives of Colombia. The game is scheduled for 18:00 (Puerto Rico time) and will be broadcast live on WAPA Deportes.
