Aldo Álvarez, the national secretary of Communications for Democratic Change, strongly denied that food bags were for the party.
A few hours after a video on Twitter published by Teleprensa Noticiero, in which a truck is seen unloading bags of food that the government delivers in a place with the colors and the CD label, circulated on the networks; The prosecutor’s office arrived on the spot to carry out the respective investigations.
“@FGR_SV is investigating the packages intended to support the citizens during the # COVID19 pandemic, within a property associated with a political party”, the Prosecutor’s Office reported on Twitter.

Prosecutor General Raúl Melara reported that the procedure was the same as the one carried out when the headquarters of a political party searching for solidarity packages was searched.
“The aid must go where it is needed and not be used for the electoral benefit of any party,” prosecutor Raúl Melara said on Twitter.
Melara assured that the boxes did not move and that they received the documentation that will be delivered to those who need it, but that the investigation continues.
“Our task is to make sure that the boxes found yesterday are actually delivered to people. Any indication that someone wants to take advantage will be investigated. No one in El Salvador should tolerate more than a political party trying to take advantage of public money, “he said.

The prosecutor’s office ordered the police to intervene on the site on Friday night in order to carry out the respective actions and deduce the responsibilities.
“The functional direction was addressed to PNC so that it can immediately execute the relevant actions and be able to deduce responsibilities”, the Prosecutor’s Office published on its Twitter account.
The prosecutor’s office explained that, since they became aware of the situation through the video posted on Twitter, they have performed the necessary procedures.
The announcement comes shortly after ARENA MP Carlos Saade reported that he would submit a notification to the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged delivery of food packages by the government to the Democratic Change (CD) party.

Diario de Hoy consulted the authorities of the political institute and, in this regard, Aldo Álvarez, the party’s national communications secretary, stated categorically that the food packages are not intended for CDs.
“I tell you strongly that this was not an activity of the CD, we ourselves have criticized in the past that they give things to buy votes, less we will do, in addition, there are packages that are for people and come from money public and have nothing to do with election campaigns, “Alvarez said.
As he said, they rented part of the property that appears in the video for the CD headquarters and share the parking lot with other rental offices and the rest of the space of an NGO that owns the complete infrastructure.
“In fact, our headquarters was closed, I assume it must be an activity related to a Veterans Association, we share the parking lot and sometimes, when journalists arrived, we go to the covered parking lot due to the size, the premises (of the CD ) are small “, Álvarez argued.
He added that there are still about 4 offices on the side of the rooms and that the CD only rents a part that is in the back. “The side is rented to a veterans association,” he explained.
In a thread of tweets published by the Teleprensa account, another video is observed in which a man appears explaining that they have a place near the CD party.
“This is the CD office, there it says welcome CD and this is our office here, this is our office, we started and we don’t charge even five, so here you won’t see any propaganda yet, but let’s go to have the banners and they will see our chairs and desks, because we don’t charge veterans anything, we are poor and we will continue to be poor, but they must have their benefits, “said the man speaking in the video.
“Inside the 5th. Poniente Street is identified with the colors of the CD, but the common unification table of veterans has ensured that they rent a space instead and the food packages are for them “, says the Teleprensa tweet that accompanies the video.
Then, in another Teleprensa tweet, the same man in the video explains that, in the premises he rents, “historic FMLN and the military are united” who fought during the war, “here we have our meetings, on January 31st. we will celebrate Veterans Day by legislative agreement and that is why we asked for help, no government helped us “, said the war veteran.
This comes a day after the CD approved its support as a party for the candidacy of former Interior Minister Mario Durán, who is running for mayor of San Salvador for the New Ideas party.
