Well, Nintendo and Sony have their joysticks adrift, but Microsoft is currently facing its own set of controller issues for this generation’s Xbox Series X and S, partly a state-of-the-art report, and if you experience them, you are not alone.
Microsoft has recognized an ongoing issue with face buttons that do not respond to the current Xbox controller:
“At Microsoft, we put all our products through rigorous quality assurance tests and are committed to providing our customers with an unparalleled gaming experience. We are aware that some players may no longer respond to their new Xbox wireless controllers, and our teams are actively working on a solution. For the best experience, we encourage customers to access Xbox Support for support. “
As of now, there is no solution and you may be able to change it under warranty, but this process can be somewhat difficult. For an example of what happens, you can watch this video from Jake on YouTube that shows what a non-test Y button looks like:
Probably an unresponsive front button is probably a more serious general problem than the joystick drift, the main problem with Sony’s PS5 controller in the game at any given time, although it’s unclear how widespread the problems are with the button. But when I hit, I hit hard:
Since we’re talking about a four-month window from launch, that’s … pretty bad.
Microsoft, like Sony and Nintendo, has already faced a class action lawsuit for controller issues, but this was for the joystick drift, in fact, a less publicized problem with the Xbox controller, but sometimes one as well. But no doubt they do not want to face other problems related to buttons, which is why they will try to solve this in a short order.
It seems to be a model among modern controllers and it is easy to go through several of them in a generation, not because of any kind of abuse, but because of the normal wear and tear that creates problems with the joysticks, the battery life or now, the buttons. Even Microsoft’s expensive Elite controllers have had similar problems in the past, so it’s not a completely new problem.
It is clear that more work needs to be done to ensure the lifespan of these controllers, as more and more technology is blocked as generations progress. But the basics seem to be what fails, the joysticks and buttons, and none of the major players have an end in sight. For Xbox, stay tuned for any fixes for this button issue in particular.
