Far from her sports filming, the beauty queen talked about her whirlwind story with the American wind Nick, which started in May 2018.

On July 19 of that year – a day after Priyanka celebrated her birthday – Nick proposed that they enjoy a romantic break on the Greek island of Crete.

Speaking about the proposal, the star said: “I did not expect the proposal at that time … It’s been two months! I thought it was going to happen, but it was still a complete shock. [But] I gave up control and just went with him.

She opened up about how their romance developed, explaining: “We only met sporadically for about two years. I sent text messages and more, and maybe there was a part of me that wanted something serious.

But I took a break from the boys at that moment. I didn’t want anyone romantic. But there was always something about Nick, which is why we always kept in touch, no matter where we were.

“One thing to know about my husband is that when he makes his decision, he will get what he wants! When he knows, he knows. There is such a sublime trust that you can’t help but be “OK”.

The couple will continue to tie the knot in a lavish ceremony at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodphur in December 2018, ending a life-changing year.

Now, says Priyanka, they are working on the challenge of making sure they see each other every three weeks because their busy careers keep them in different parts of the world.

She told Elle, “See you every three weeks. Wherever we are in the world, we fly to each other at least once a month for a few days. It was our rule when we first got married. Otherwise we would never see each other.

Marriage was not the only recent major change for Priyanka, who had to start her career from scratch after leaving the Indian superstar for a new life in the US.

“At that time, the hearing process was taboo in India, [especially] when you become a great actor, ‘she said. “Now, it’s changed a lot, but 10 years ago, auditioning wasn’t something you did.

‘But [in Hollywood] it was culture, so I had to learn that. I found out that I can’t rest on my laurels and that I had to go into a room and introduce myself to people and not feel justified.

“Just because a lot of the world might know me, that.” [doesn’t mean] everyone should. It’s always hard when you start a new career. And I treated it completely [moving to America] as a new career.

“If you think about it, I’ve only been an actor in the US for five years. I’m almost done doing the work I really want to do. It takes time in every career.

Going for gold in Hollywood also meant the potential to break down barriers as one of the few South Asian actresses in prominent lead roles outside the continent.

“I think there is so much room for Indian talent,” she said. “But it will require a mobilization of our community to support each other instead of pulling each other down.

“I thought, ‘I want to create opportunities as a producer for the people of South Asia in Hollywood, like I’ve never had before.’ I had to fight for it.

‘I had to say,’ I don’t want to add the extra Indian accent. If my character was born and raised in the UK or the US, why would she talk like that? Why would you wear a bindi? ”

“It’s stupid, stereotypical. I defied a lot of things and now I get to a point in Hollywood where my culture is my trump card instead of my definition.

However, while continuing to take steps in Hollywood, Priyanka, who recently released her memoirs Unfinished, retreats more when it comes to social media.

She said: “My relationship with social media has changed in the last four to five years. I’m definitely more cautious now. I don’t interact as much.

‘[Before], if I wasn’t sleeping or if I was bored in a trailer, I would start a question and answer with the fans or I would go live on Instagram. I’m much more careful [now]. It broke my heart a little. Everyone’s success, how easy it is to take something trivial and make it so big … ”
