Prince Harry told James Corden about his decision to retire from the royal family last year during a surprise appearance on “The Late Late Show” early Friday.
The Duke of Sussex joined the animator for an extensive interview, in which the two Facetimed with Meghan Markle and Harry even spilled tea literally (while riding over a two-story bus in Los Angeles). Although there was no karaoke for the carpool, there were a few raps from the prince while he sang “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.
When Corden announced Prince Harry’s decision to move away from the royal family, the duke was quick to say, “He was never removed.”
“It was a step back, rather than a step down,” Harry said. “It was a very difficult environment, as I think many people have seen. We all know what the British press can be like. And it was destroying my mental health. I said to myself, “This is toxic.” So I did what any husband and any father would do and it was, “I need to get my family out of here.” ”
“But we never left,” he added. “And as for me and whatever the decisions taken by that side, I will never leave. I will always contribute. But my life is public service. So wherever I am in the world, it will be the same. ”

Corden and Royal were seen filming on a two-story bus in Los Angeles earlier this month. While CBS did not respond to HuffPost’s request at the time, an anonymous source told people that the duo recorded an appropriate COVID segment of “Carpool Karaoke Upstairs” and that there was “a lot of jokes and laughter.” “For long-time friends.
Meghan and Harry will appear together on March 7 for a 90-minute special with Oprah Winfrey, entitled “Oprah with Meghan and Harry”. This will mark the couple’s first in-room interview since they announced their retirement as active members of the royal family in January 2020.
One year after the couple’s decision, Buckingham Palace confirmed last week that the two would not “return as working members of the Royal Family.”
