Prince Harry gets a new job at the technology startup BetterUp

The Duke of Sussex has joined Silicon Valley startup BetterUp as chief impact officer, CNN Business said on Tuesday. A spokesman for Harry also confirmed the new role of the prince.

BetterUp offers clients coaching and mental health services. The company’s website lists Harry as part of its management team, describing him as “a humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate and environmentalist.”

Harry joins the startup weeks after he and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, gave Oprah Winfrey a bombshell interview detailing their decision to leave the UK and retire from leading roles in the British royal family. The couple, who live in California, also addressed the stress that royal life had on mental health.

At BetterUp, Harry is expected to contribute to product strategy decisions and charities and publicly support mental health issues, the newspaper reported. The newspaper said BetterUp declined to comment on how much Harry would have paid.

“It’s a significant and meaty role,” CEO Alexi Robichaux told the Wall Street Journal.

The prince expanded his reasons for joining BetterUp in a post on the company’s blog, saying he recognized a “common passion” to help the people of Robichaux.

“What caught my eye about BetterUp was that the company’s mission to unlock the potential of people everywhere requires innovation, impact and integrity. Their team has been doing that work for years,” Harry said.

Harry also said that he personally benefited from the coaching offered by BetterUp.

“I personally considered working with a BetterUp coach to be invaluable. I was associated with a truly wonderful coach who gave me solid advice and a new perspective,” Harry said in the blog post.

The prince has taken on another great task since leaving the United Kingdom. Spotify has an exclusive partnership with Archewell Audio, a production company founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
