Portal 2 just turned ten, and what better way to celebrate than by adding extra head scratches to Valve’s intricate puzzle box? Portal Reloaded is a Portal 2 mode that adds 25 new puzzles and a new portal type. This new green portal allows expert portals to travel 20 years in the future and solve Aperture Science cameras both in space and time.
“Waking up from the stasis of an automated AI, you expect to complete a very special test course. In the depths of Aperture Science, isolated from the rest of the facility, there is a test track unknown and long forgotten,” says the creator of Portal Reloaded. . “This mode is aimed at portal veterans, who are familiar with the gameplay of the main series and want to expand their horizons.”
After watching the Portal Reloaded trailer, I definitely think it’s for professionals.
If you need some information on how time-traveling objects work, the creator of Portal Reloaded has put together a few more videos to introduce the concepts visually. For example, a cube in the future timeline can be moved without affecting the past self, but a cube moved in the present will affect the future. Because of this, you cannot bring a cube into the present through a portal to the future, but you can brings a cube from the future through a portal into the past.
I hope everything makes sense to you. I mean, it makes sense to me, but I know I’m going to stare at my screen when I try to put it into practice. I’m always ready for a good puzzle game, but I admit that I’ve always been quite hindered by the Portal. Spatial reasoning is not one of the strengths of my puzzle. Portal Reloaded looks like one of those neat creations that I will choose to experiment with, watching people smarter than me playing it.
If you are a veteran Aperture Scientist, you can find the Portal reloaded on Steam to see if you can escape the lab again.
