Police still do not explain the circumstances in which they killed their husbands in Vila Altagracia

Santo Domingo, RD.

The national police continue without explaining the circumstances in which Joel Díaz and Elizabeth Muñoz, a married couple who were shot on the Duarte highway near Villa Altagracia, were killed when they were returning to Santo Domingo.

The police version is that he confused the white Kia vehicle with the one they were looking for.

So far, the police have not said exactly who they were following and the reasons why they shot the husbands, without saying a word.

Six National Police officers who were part of the police patrol that killed the married couple were arrested in this case. They will have to appear before the court of permanent attention of Vila Altagracia on Wednesday in order to know their coercive measure.

This patrol consisted of the second lieutenant Victorino Reyes Navarro, Sargeant Domingo Perdomo Reyes, capes Norkys Rodríguez Jiménez and Ángel de los Santosas well as satins Anthony Castro Pérez and Juan Manuel Ogando Solís.

Colonel César Martínez Lora, the commander of Operation Villa Altagracia, was also involved in this case and was suspended pending investigations. However, he is not among those charged with the murder.

As for Martínez Lora, it was reported that he worked for the National Drug Control Directorate and was fired for allegedly “hiding the drug he confiscated and then negotiating” when he worked as a DNCD inspector in Higüey.

Police have not yet confirmed this information, as has Interior and Police Minister Jesús Vásquez Martínez, who has been questioned several times without comment.

National Police spokesman Miguel Balbuena said he was in the middle of an investigation into the case and that at the right time, they would explain who the police were looking for when they killed Joel and Elizabeth.

The Interior and Police said on Thursday (April 1st) that they had set up an external commission “to carry out a real and effective purification of the institution in order to separate staff who do not respect ethical and moral profile and adequate training”.

However, the entity did not provide details on who will set up the external commission or what their work will be like.

The couple were buried on the afternoon of Friday, April 2, amid widespread expressions of pain and dismay from Dominican society.

There were two pastors who participated in an evangelical campaign in Villa Altagracia. They lived in the Cuesta Linda sector, in the Sabana Perdida of Santo Domingo Norte. They were only married for two months.
