It happened at 1500 block of West Somerville Avenue just before 7:00 PM
According to Sgt. Eric Gripp of the Philadelphia Police Department, an officer was shot while approaching a vehicle during the traffic stop. A total of five officers were on the scene to assist before the gunfire broke out.

When one of the officers approached the vehicle occupied by four people, Gripp said a 24-year-old man produced a gun inside and started firing.
All five officers fired back and killed the 24-year-old armed suspect. A weapon was found on the spot.
Gripp says the officer was shot in the foot and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
The three other occupants of the car, a woman and two men, were not injured. They are currently being questioned by the police.
Gripp says it is still unknown at this point that the traffic was halted.
