Police continue search for gunman after deadly shooting in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police in southwest Miami-Dade County are investigating a late-morning shooting.

Authorities said three people were shot dead on Saturday, one of whom was pronounced dead.

Relatives told Local 10 that the shooter and the victims are all family members.

It happened inside a house, and the police remained active in the area while looking for the person who pulled the trigger.

Miami-Dade police responded at home near 294th Street and 142nd Avenue after reports of shootings made just after 11 a.m. Saturday.

With the arrival of the officers, they discovered that three people had been shot and one had been killed.

“The other adult men and adult females were transported by Miami Dade fire rescue to a critical area hospital,” said Miami-Dade Police Detective Kristopher Welch.

The surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows a neighbor helping an injured woman escape violence.

“I think he reacted like a hero because he lied to her and helped put her there without endangering her life,” said Julio Magallan, whose son-in-law is seen in the film Helping the Woman. who had been shot. .

Police said the 18-year-old ran away from home, prompting officers to quickly establish a perimeter while searching for the suspect.

For hours, officers combed the Southwest Miami Dade neighborhood by air and land for the man the police believe was armed and dangerous.

“Miami-Dade police recovered two firearms on the spot,” Det said. Welch. “Although we cannot ignore the possibility that the subject is still armed.”

As the search continued, detectives gathered clues and worked to find out what led to the shooting.

“There was a verbal dispute inside the residence that escalated and led to gunfire,” Det said. Welch.

Investigators said the gunman knew the victims, and relatives told Local 10 news that they were all family members.

Roy Ramos, 10, spoke to Mike Baker, the suspect’s uncle. Baker said he is still trying to understand why, he said, his nephew, identified as Ruben, opened fire on his own family members.

“My nephew shot my dad and my sister,” Baker said. “Now I hear my sister’s son should be dead.”

Police have not yet released a description of the suspect.

Baker’s message to his nephew was to stop running from the police.

“I don’t want anyone to hurt you, but what you did, you have to come in, nephew,” Baker said.
