Police: 1 dead, 2 detained in Boise State University shooting

Police in Boise, Idaho say they are holding two suspects in deadly shooting near Boise State University student complex

BOISE, Idaho – Two suspects have been taken into custody in a deadly shooting on the Boise State University campus, police said early Tuesday.

Officers responded to a call about shots fired around 11:30 a.m. Monday night, Boise police tweeted. They found a man on the street with gunshot wounds who was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries, a police statement said.

A white passenger vehicle fled the area after the shooting, and a short time later, agents attempted to stop a similar car about 2 miles from the shooting scene, the statement said.

A man ran out of the car but was taken into custody a few blocks away, the statement said. Police said another suspect in the area had also been taken into custody after officers chased him on foot.

The identity of the victim and the suspect was not immediately disclosed. Police have also not disclosed details of how the shooting went.

News outlets reported that the university’s BroncoAlert messaging system warned the campus community that there was a shooting near Jade Hall, where there is student accommodation.

A second warning urged people to take shelter in their place. At the beginning of Tuesday, less than an hour later, a completely clear message was sent.

The Boise State University campus is located in an urban setting near downtown Boise, surrounded by neighborhoods and local businesses.

Mike Sharp, a university spokesperson, did not immediately respond to email, social media, and phone messages asking for comment.
