PlayStation Network Down on PS4 and PS5 [UPDATE]

UPDATE: PlayStation Network services are backup and should work as intended. If you still have problems, check out this page here.

ORIGINAL: The PlayStation network, also known as PSN, is on PS4 and PS5. At the time of writing, the servers crashed a few minutes ago and right now all PlayStation platforms are affected, as are all other related services, such as PlayStation Plus. The news was first shared by the official Fortnite Twitter account status after players started reporting en masse that they couldn’t access the Battle Royale game for free on PlayStation platforms. Since then, the official PlayStation Status website has confirmed that every aspect of the PSN, except PlayStation Video, is either defective or has problems.

At the time of publication, it is not clear which regions are affected. Moreover, it is not clear how long PlayStation players should expect the services not to work. That being said, as long as the services don’t work, PlayStation players will be limited to offline and single-player games.

Not only is it unclear how widespread the outage is and when a solution will be launched, but it is not clear what is causing the problem in the first place. Usually, when PSN and other similar services, such as Xbox Live Gold, decline, it is due to server overload, which means that servers usually run into problems on weekends when everyone is playing.

At the time of publication, details of the interruption are scarce. That being said, we will be sure to update the story as new and official details emerge. Sony is usually very quick to fix such outages, but there have been cases where the PSN has dropped and stayed off for hours. In other words, be prepared to wait until tomorrow to access the PlayStation Network.
