Piers Morgan is on a royal tear.
The broadcaster appeared on “Extra TV” on Tuesday to talk to host Billy Bush about his departure his “Good Morning Britain” concert and allegedly received support from members of the British royal family for “defending them” in his comments about Meghan Markle.
Morgan left “GMB” after saying he did not “believe a word,” the Duchess of Sussex said during Harry and Meghan’s first show with Oprah Winfrey last month.
“I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report and the fact that she launched this attack on our royal family, I think it’s contemptuous,” Morgan said at the time.
Comments apparently erupted as Morgan told Bush that “I had been sent several messages on behalf of several members of the royal family.” Morgan declined to name names when Bush asked if “top-level people” had come into contact.
“Well, I won’t go into who he was,” said the author of Wake Up. “But what I would say is, gratitude that someone defended them.”
A spokesman for Buckingham Palace told HuffPost on Wednesday that “we do not comment on this.” Kensington Palace has not returned a request for comment.
Morgan also told Bush that “he apologized for not believing Meghan Markle, whom I don’t believe.”
“I think – which is ironic – that you should have the right not to believe someone if you don’t want to,” the broadcaster added.
During Meghan’s interview with Oprah, the duchess said she was thinking about suicide and that members of the royal family had expressed racist concerns about how dark her son’s skin would be before he was born. Prince Harry also revealed that his father, Prince Charles, “stopped calling” during talks about his royal departure and claimed that his family “literally interrupted me financially”.
Gayle King, the host of “CBS This Morning” and a friend of the couple, later shared an update on Harry’s conversations with his father and brother, Prince William, calling them “unproductive.”
“The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive,” King said in his March show. “But they’re glad they started at least one conversation.”
“I think what still bothers them is that the palace keeps saying they want to solve it privately, but I still think there are these false stories that are still very contemptuous against Meghan,” King said.
“I think it’s frustrating for them to see that it’s a racial conversation about the royal family, when all they wanted all the time was for the family members to step in and tell the press to stop with the unfair, inaccurate, false stories that safety have a racial inclination. “, Added the journalist. “Until you can recognize this, I think it will be difficult to move forward.”
