Philly Cop drives drunk, plows house, critically hurts wife, PD says – NBC10 Philadelphia

An off-duty police officer in Philadelphia who was driving drunk took to the air, plowed into a house, pushed a woman under his car and left her seriously injured, police said.

Officer Gregory Campbell, 27, was driving northeast Philadelphia around 8:20 p.m. Saturday and lost control and rammed his car into a house at block 2800 of Comply Road, said Danielle Outlaw, commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Campbell, assigned to the ward’s 14th district, beat the 53-year-old woman, as well as a 45-year-old man and their two dogs, Outlaw said. The woman was trapped under the car and passed out before being rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. The man sustained injuries to his right arm, hand, hip and leg, as well as a rash on his back, the commissioner said.

“The fact that the perpetrator is, in this case, a police officer in Philadelphia is appalling,” Outlaw said in a statement. “Police officers must be held to a higher standard – even outside their service – and I assure victims and the public that a full and thorough investigation will take place.”

Campbell is charged with aggravated assault, DUI and related crimes.

John McNesby, President of the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 5 union, Outlaw reiterated in sending prayers to the families of the victims. He called it an “unfortunate incident” and said the union “will continue to monitor the investigation.”
