Amid signs that the free agent market is finally starting to wake up from its two-month hibernation, Phillies has made a new nine-figure bid for free agent catcher JT Realmuto.
According to a source in the industry familiar with the negotiations, the offer was for a period of five years and slightly north of 100 million dollars, which is believed to be somewhere in the area where the club was last March, when the negotiations stopped due to COVID MLB -19 frozen transactions.
Phillies’ new president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, declined to comment to The Athletic on Friday, saying, “We continue to have an interest in JT, but in terms of negotiations, these are things that need to be kept private.”
