PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – An investigation is underway after a Philadelphia police officer was shot dead Wednesday night.
It happened on the 1500 block of West Somerville Boulevard just before 7 p.m.
Sources told Action News that the officers were fired while driving a traffic stop, while three people were in the vehicle.
The officer was shot in the leg during an exchange of gunfire, Action News found out.
Two of the three people inside the vehicle were also injured in the fight. One of the occupants was fatally injured, according to sources.
Currently, the officer is listed in a stable condition at a hospital in the area.
There was no immediate word on what caused the traffic to stop.
