The Penn State 2020 football season is officially over. Following the Nittany Lions’ 56-21 victory over Illinois on Saturday night, the program decided to drop considerations about the bowl game. The program announced the decision on social networks on Saturday night. Nittany Lions will end the season with a 4-5 record after starting 0-5 this season.
The discussion and eventual decision was led by Nittany Lions captains and the board of directors, who discussed the opportunity to play a game of illness with their teammates after the victory over Illinois. Finally, the players chose to end the season and go home and spend time with their loved ones for the holidays.
Part of head coach James Franklin’s quote from the ad reads the following;
“As you know, we rely on our captains and the Board to give a voice to our team, and student-athletes have made the difficult choice of not participating in a bowl this year to spend time with loved ones. We fully support their decision, knowing that many months have passed since our student-athletes managed to spend time with their families and the challenges they endured, both physically and mentally. This will be an opportunity for our boys to go home, see family and recharge for the spring semester. ”
The Nittany Lions will return in January and begin preparations for the 2021 season, although they will have to contend with many of the same COVID-19 challenges they faced during the 2020 season. this season and were one of two Big Ten programs that played all nine games in 2020, joining Rutgers who finished his own season on Friday night.
For the rest of us, it will be a waiting game until next time we all get together and watch Penn State football next fall. We hope there will be some fans in the stands then, but until then, all we can do is start the countdown …..
Only 258 days until Penn State Football!
