The new governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Pedro Rafael Pierluisi Urrutia, was already sworn in, in a ceremony in which access to the press was not allowed.
The swearing-in ceremony, held in the capital of Puerto Rico, was left covered only from the outside.
“With great honor and humility, I take on the responsibility of being the governor of Puerto Rico. I swore to defend you and give everything for you. I will do so. Puerto Rico is yours, “Pedro Pierluisi said when he took the oath.
Dominican President Luis Abinader was one of the leaders invited to the event. Abinader left for the island at 8:30 in the morning and arrived a few minutes before 9:20 in the morning.
He was accompanied by the administrative minister of the presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and the foreign minister Roberto Álvarez.
The president is expected to leave the island back in the country around noon.
