Pedro Pierluisi decrees three days of mourning after the murder of three police officers

Governor Pedro Pierluisi decreed today, Tuesday, three days of mourning in memory of the three police officers who were killed yesterday while doing their duty in Carolina.

State Police Officer Luis Marrero Díaz and Carolina Municipal Officers Luis Salamán Conde and Eliezer Hernández Cartagena died in hospital after being shot several times during a chase.

“I deeply regret the pain suffered by the families of these three heroes who were killed while fulfilling their duty to protect the lives of all on our Island. These violent acts and contempt for life cannot have the desired space in Puerto Rico. We have declared three days of mourning in memory and honor of our brave policemen who lost their lives. To all members of their family, my solidarity and my prayers for them to have the strength and comfort they need in these difficult times. Our entire city mourns the departure of Luis Marrero, Luis Salamán and Eliezer Hernández, “Pierluisi said in written statements.

The executive added that he gave instructions to speed up the investigation of this crime, which also left a fourth police officer injured.

“We have instructed that the whole investigation be diligently carried out so that the responsible party (s) can comply with the full weight of the law. We thank our police officers for their courage and dedication to come out every day to defend people, risking their lives. We are committed to working urgently to empower and provide more resources to our uniforms, ”he said.

The persecution in which the officers lost their lives took place on Baldorioty de Castro Boulevard, near the Mundo Feliz condominium in Isla Verde.

Authorities said police were pursuing a white Hyundai Accent car when a man shot at them and fled. The car was later found without a driver in the Luis Llorens Torres residence.

However, authorities are still in residence today to find out where the killer is. Meanwhile, San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps agents remain on San José Street, at the intersection of Muñoz Rivera Boulevard in Santurce, where they found the body of a man with “similar characteristics” to those of the alleged police killer.
