Paul Manafort is pardoned, tweeting for the first time in four years

After being pardoned by President Trump on Wednesday night, one of Paul Manafort’s first steps was to tweet for the first time in four years. “Mr. President, my family and I humbly thank you for the presidential pardon you have granted me. Words cannot fully express how grateful we are.” Nonetheless, Manafort did his best, committed two more tweets’ value of lavish praise.

The president’s 2016 campaign chairman, Manafort, was found guilty of tax and bank fraud and later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obstruct justice, in charges stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. In May, he was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison, although he was allowed to serve at home for fear of COVID-19. Before tonight, his last tweet – sent on December 19, 2016 – was “President Donald J. Trump! Nothing more to say, except now is the time “To Make America Great Again”!
