Patriots to sign Matt Judon

UPDATE, 14:00: It’s official now, Judon will be a Patriot. The deal has been finalized, Rapoport tweets. It’s a four-year, $ 56 million pact with $ 32 million guaranteed in the first two years, a source for NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said (Twitter link).

13:36: The startup could be spent by the Patriots’ free agent. New England has already agreed to the conditions for large, narrow-ended transactions Jonnu Smith and defensive equipment Of which Godchaux months and have a new, well-known player in their sights.

The Patriots are putting “major pressure” on the Ravens Matt Judon, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network tweets. Pats say they are “close” to Judon’s signing, a source told ESPN.com’s Josina Anderson (Twitter) link). Everything I’ve heard recently during this off-season indicated that Baltimore would probably let Judon go. The Ravens franchise scored it in the last round, but it would have been prohibitively expensive to do it a second time and they never managed to close a long-term deal.

A fifth-round pick from Grand Valley State in 2016, Judon broke out in 2017 and continued to improve. He has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last two seasons, with six sacks in 14 games in 2020 and 9.5 sacks last year.

With Godchaux and now with Judon’s potential in check, the Patriots’ defensive front will be much more imposing in 2021. The Pats had just 24 sacks as a team in 2020, the sixth lowest in the league.
