Patrick Mahomes, head of Kansas City QB, still in concussion protocol, trained again Friday

KANSAS CITY, Mo – Patrick Mahomes was with the Kansas City Chiefs when they began their training session on Friday, their last before Sunday’s AFC championship game against Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium.

His participation on Friday seems to put Muhammad on a path to play on Sunday. Head coach Andy Reid said Muhammad took all the snapshots from Wednesday’s practice and that most of them took place on Thursday.

Muhammad was eliminated from last week’s playoff victory over Browns with symptoms of concussion after being attacked hard in a running game. He was part of the NFL commotion protocol.

Three other key players who struggled with injuries were also present at the start of training on Friday: wide receiver Sammy Watkins (calf), runner Clyde Edwards-Helaire (hip, ankle) and defender Bashaud Breeland (concussion, shoulder).

Coach Sean McDermott said the Bills are preparing for Mahomes to play.

“I don’t think we were very sure at the beginning of the week and we really won’t know, I think,” McDermott said. “It’s probably trending in that direction, so that’s how we anticipate.”
