Parler, a platform favored by Trump fans, is fighting for survival

Parler launched in 2018 as a free-to-air social media site for users fed up with the rules on Facebook and Twitter and quickly gained fans from President Trump’s supporters. On Monday, it got dark, knocked down by his more permissive approach.

Amazon.com Inc. he abruptly ended web hosting services for the company, effectively shutting down its operations, prompting Parler to sue Amazon in federal court in Seattle. Other technological partners also acted, paralyzing operations.

The reason for the decision was last week’s mafia attack on the US Capitol. In the afternoon of the uprising, Amazon warned Parler executives that they had received reports that the social media platform was hosting “inappropriate” content and that Parler had 24 hours to address it.

“We’ve been appropriately addressing this type of content and have been actively collaborating with law enforcement for the past few weeks,” Parler’s chief policy officer Amy Peikoff told Amazon a few hours later in an email to The Wall Street Journal .

Amazon wrote back on Thursday: “Please consider that it has been resolved.” The e-mail gave Parler executives the confidence that their moderation system, no matter how tense, was acceptable to his technology partner.
