As a result of these efforts, it is known that the girls will soon be assigned to the United States Department of Unaccompanied Minors / Office for Refugee Resettlement to begin the family reunification process.

This process can take about six weeks for the sponsors (parents or relatives) to submit the required documentation, the official note said.

He points out that while the reunification process takes place, the girls will stay in a shelter with other minors, “where they will meet their needs and communicate with their parents on a daily basis.”

The Houston consulate held a dialogue with the minors and found that they are in good health “and they were contacting their parents, who currently live in New York City,” he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility is awaiting the elaboration of the case, but at the same time works with the necessary restraint and confidentiality to protect the rights of Ecuadorian migrants and in particular minors and adolescents.
