Pandemic Anniversary: Jim Gaffigan marks a year of lockdown

My birthday is approaching and I still haven’t taken anything from my wife. I know, I know, I’m horrible! But how do you celebrate a whole year of life with Coronavirus?

Comedian Jim Gaffigan is thinking of the perfect birthday present to mark the end of a year in which time has NOT flown by.

I don’t think inviting friends to a party is a good idea.

Should I give my wife a mask? Sweatpants? Whitening?

Can you believe we’re all living in a year-long pandemic? That’s right, just 12 months ago we used to do weird things with friends like shake hands or hug or meet them at dinner without fear of killing people.

Just a year. It’s amazing what time really is not to fly by.

Maybe it’s been a grueling 12 months, but I’d like to focus on the positives for a moment.

Okay, enough of this.

No, indeed, the last 12 months have been interesting, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I learned a few things:

  • I have found that cooking for my family every night for the past year has led to the fact that I am not yet a good cook.
  • I’ve found that if I don’t eat a huge block of cheese and drink half a bottle of bourbon at midnight, I won’t wake up feeling horrible the next morning. I find that I still have to find out that lesson.
  • We have found that online food delivery takes longer than personal food purchases.
  • I learned that using text-conversation is the most effective way to get on someone’s nerves.
  • And finally, and most importantly, after spending almost every moment of every day of the last 12 months with my five children, I learned that I was no longer afraid that Harry Chapin’s play, “Cat’s in the Cradle ”:

“When are you coming home, Dad?”
“I do not know when
But we will meet then
You know you’re going to have fun then. ”

Happy birthday to all!
