Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is pledging half a million dollars to help small companies battling the ongoing pandemic.
Rodgers told Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy on Instagram on Friday that he agrees with Portnoy’s initial $ 500,000 donation, which created The Barstool Fund, a charity that supports companies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I just want to get involved,” Rodgers said. “I am inside. I want to be at the same amount you put in. You started at $ 500,000, that’s what I do. It’s an honor to be a part of this. “
The Barstool Fund has now raised over $ 22 million and helped 102 different companies since Sunday morning.
Rodgers believes the charity helps companies “by doing something the government doesn’t do.” The fund provides “life-changing money” to businesses immediately after two or three days.
Rodgers also called on teammates and others to help the business, which he described as “the backbone of this country.”
“It’s a call to action so that everyone there can continue to donate and do what they can,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers said he was inspired by The Barstool Fund’s videos that help save small businesses.
“I’m just scared of what you’ve done and I can’t stand on the sidelines,” Rodgers said. “It simply came to our notice then. We are talking about our people, these are our people. This is the backbone of this country that is taking over my chin right now, I want to get involved, I have to get involved. “
