Outriders can’t take a break

It’s been a week and a half for the shooter Outriders, a game shaken by eleven days of lack of functionality, server problems, and the player’s commotion. The latest wave of problems began on Friday afternoon, when developer People Can Fly pushed out a patch for PC and PlayStation consoles, with an Xbox version to follow later, unspecified.

Then, at 18:17 ET, People Can Fly said the PlayStation 5 version of the patch would also come late. The next morning, that PS5 patch went live. Until the afternoon, the patch for Xbox consoles it was liveAlso, but for about 24 hours, crossover only existed between PlayStation 4 and PC players.

This is a notable divergence from how cross-play has worked – or not – since its launch. Outriders. During the demonstration, Outriders crossover supported on all platforms, albeit in a beta state. Although you could often party without problems, the jugglers on the platforms tended to lead to disconnections and stuttering of the frame. Square Enix said Kotaku when Outriders would “have a release version 1.0 a [the] crossplay system at launch. ”

After Outriders released, the crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox worked, but was dysfunctional between consoles and PC. Of course, once PC gamers officially managed to join the fight this weekend, many console gamers weren’t. Funny how these things happen.

At this time, cross games appear to come back completely online. (I play Outriders on PS5 and I still haven’t managed to test it with PC players, but I played a few hours last night with a friend on the Xbox Series X. We only disconnected four times.) But other problems remain.

First of all, there is the issue of inventory wipes. In the last week and change, players they reported total inventory napkins: They logged in, only to see all their hard-earned weapons and armor gone. The patch that went live over the weekend claim to “a multiplayer crash that could lead to the elimination of the inventory of client players”. And yet, as Luke reported last night, some players still see their stocks disappear in a flash. (People can fly say, in case of deletion of the inventory, you should “forcefully close immediately [your] game ”and reopen it.)

People Can Fly plans a solution at some point in the future, in the form of a bulk restoration for lost tools. Unfortunately, the developer said he will probably be able to restore epic (purple) or legendary (yellow) level tools, forever transferring something rare (blue) or smaller to the trash of history. Moreover, some statistics about the restored tools may not appear exactly as they were.

And then there are issues of rebalancing. Although Outriders is an all player vs. player game. medium – without public plans of a player mode vs. player – People can fly detailed some nerves. In particular, the Trickster class received a significant increase in cooling time for its strong twisting ability. These changes have sparked outrage, with players going to social media to describe the choice as “bullshit, ”„bullshit, ”„damn shit, ”„bullshit, ”And other phrases of this nature. (You don’t have to look far to find comments that go over the limit Outriders the team worked hard over the weekend, two weekends in a row now. But even if that was not the case, harassment is never, never justified.)

As compensation for the misfortunes the players experienced Outriders, the developer will also offer a legendary weapon and part of the titanium – a top resource used in the game’s craft system – to the highest level character for players who have connected Outriders before yesterday. So, no, you won’t be able to create six characters and score six legendary weapons. You have no ideas. (People Can Fly has not announced once again for this “gift of appreciation”).

It’s kind of annoying because under all this live a really great game: a solid shooter with a game weapon, a convincing prey hunt and some serious powers. And the story grows on you, despite what you might think in the opening moments. Let me say this: Outriders it’s the first game in a long, long time that made me feel like food until the end of the work day so I could start playing. And these problems do not seem to hinder the success of the game – at least not yet. Outriders It is at the moment the third best-selling game on Steam and the second most popular game on Xbox Game Pass, according to the digital showcases for both merchants.

The question, of course, is whether or not Outriders can keep pace despite extra luggage. If these problems persist, players will bleed naturally, frustrated by the appearance of the game and burned by solutions that solve nothing. But, on the other hand, there is not too much to play right now. And People Can Fly has done human work in communicating problems, solutions and calendars to the player base, with at least one update or missive released every day since launch. It remains to be seen how long those players will last with a game that is currently less than perfect.
