Oscar de La Hoya shows that his return to the ring is serious

The intentions of Oscar de la Hoya to make a fight even in the exhibition mode are serious.

The multiple champion and, in turn, a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, have published a short video on social networks that seems to be running, what appears to be a training session for a potential comeback.

De La Hoya, 48, announced that his plans are to return to boxing on July 3, as part of the Triller Fight Club event, through the “pay per view” service. The rival was not announced.

De La Hoya has not fought since 2008, when he lost to Filipino Manny Pacquiao with TKO.

“This is coming true,” De La Hoya wrote on his Instagram account. “There are three months left and the beast mode is already felt. In the next 30 days I will focus on speed and (decrease) to 158 pounds, then I will start light gloves to get into the rhythm with my fists and in the last three weeks I will prepare for a war. I’ll show the world that age is just a damn number”.

De La Hoya is part of a handful of former boxers who saw an opportunity after several years of inactivity. The first were Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., who fought in an exhibition in November last year.

Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Márquez, Miguel Cotto, Julio César Chánez and Héctor “Machito” Camacho Jr are others who followed the formula.
