The great brightness of the Mexican Sun, Luis Miguel, in turn showed the great darkness that surrounds him. That’s why writers Javier León Herrera and Juan Manuel Navarro wrote “Oro de Rey”, an updated biography in which, through the “mistakes” and “successes” of the singer, they put in context the person behind the myth.
“Everyone in life has mistakes and successes and knows about his mistakes and now we discover them. (The book) is an account of his successes and mistakes and how they made it move forward, reappear and continue to be a global success, “Juan Manuel Navarro, the Mexican author of the book, told EFE on Tuesday.
The “germ” of the book – as the Spanish journalist (Javier León Herrera) calls that first impulse they had to write on this subject – was born 25 years ago with the research he did for the first book “Luis mi Rey ”, In which they were based, with the authorization of the singer himself, the writers of“ Luis Miguel, the Netflix series ”.
This first book told the shocking story of Luis Miguel (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1970), his family full of conflicts, his father’s imposing personality and mistreatment of him, his first steps in music, his rise to music and one of his greatest sorrows: the disappearance of his mother.
“One of the things we did was to reveal what the soul behind the star is like and that myth. When you see this, you understand many things (…) There is a being full of light and a good person behind him and he is the one we all want to see ”, Javier emphasizes.
“Oro de Rey” ends his mother’s subject and tells the second part of his story after his father’s death, King Luisito. A scene full of musical successes, romantics with artists like Mariah Carey and great betrayals.
For the Spanish journalist, the “resistance” that the singer developed to “move on” is incredible, after the hard times she had to go through.
Luis Miguel “had one betrayal after another and some very painful ones, which led to the crisis of 2015, but some friends made a rescue plan for him and reappeared with the overwhelming success of the series and tournaments,” says Javier.
UNPUBLISHED, SECRET AND ANONYMOUS INTERVIEWS
The book was built thanks to the previous investigation carried out by both journalists, as well as the series of interviews they both conducted with personalities very close to the “Suave” performer, who for the most part decided to remain anonymous. .
“Some people thought that if they gave us an interview, they would get angry. Others trusted him because if the first book was approved by him, it would already give credibility to our work. Now, with confidence in the work I’ve done, most of them have accepted, “says Juan, who had the opportunity to interview the four Sun Times.
“There were many who told us: ‘I will tell you this because we are looking for the good of Luis Miguel, but we do not want our name to appear in any way,'” adds Javier.
“Oro de Rey” is also a celebration of the “golden wedding” of the living singer, who turned 50 in April 2020 and that, due to the pandemic, the book had to wait until 2021 to be launched, the sale that will start on April 20 under the Aguilar label of Penguin Random House.
The prologue was written by Emilio Estefan and it also has a chapter dedicated to the singer’s fans, as the writers recognize her important role in the artist’s career.
Javier and Juan Manuel’s plans include continuing to write about what he undoubtedly considers “Mexico’s greatest performer.”
“What we would like is that, as he himself says, he reaches the age of 70 with his glass of whiskey like Frank Sinatra singing. We hope that platinum weddings will come, talking about 60 or more years, it would be wonderful “, concludes Javier.
