NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – An investigation is underway after an elderly man died shortly after receiving a COVID vaccine at the Javits Center.

State health officials say a 70-year-old man – whose name has not been released – collapsed 25 minutes after he was shot and later died at the hospital on Sunday morning, Aundrea Cline reported. Thomas on CBS2.

In a statement, the state health commissioner said during the 15-minute observation period after the vaccine was administered, “… he had no side effects or any suffering.”

COVID VACCINE

“Until we know more about this patient’s detailed medical history or one or two others who have had something similar, we won’t really know what caused it,” said Dr. Max Gomez of CBS2.

State health officials do not believe the man had an allergic reaction – a rare but possible side effect. According to the CDC, 10 allergic reactions and no deaths were reported from nearly 4.1 million doses administered by Moderna vaccine between December 21 and January 10.

“It simply came to our notice then. That is, we have vaccinated many millions of people worldwide with very few side effects, compared to the possibility of getting COVID, ”said Gomez.

CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

That’s why the medical community is safe with the vaccine. To date, nearly 1 million people in New York have been vaccinated.

The coroner is investigating how this man died, but it is too early to link the vaccine to the patient’s death.

COVID vaccination sites, including the Javits Center, remain open throughout the city. Medical professionals say that the possibility of obtaining COVID is an even greater threat.
