One of the Donald Trump administration’s latest measures benefits Venezuelan migrants

In one of his last government measures, and within hours of leaving power, President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Tuesday night suspended the deportation of Venezuelan immigrants for a period of 18 months, when deciding to grant temporary work permits.

In a White House statement, Trump said that “the deteriorating situation in Venezuela justify the delayor the expulsion of Venezuelan citizens present in the United States. “

The still president felt that his decision, which would benefit those who remain in the country from January 20, responds to the “importance of United States foreign policy”.

The measure has a few exceptions: it does not apply to those people previously deported or have been convicted for one or two crimess.

In addition to the order to suspend deportations, the still president approved “work permits for foreigners whose deportation has been postponed … for the duration of said postponement.”

Trump’s decision is a nod to the Venezuelan community in the United States, living mainly in Florida, who supported him during these four years because of his fighting spirit against Nicolás Maduro’s government.

In fact, this Tuesday Washington approved new economic sanctions against Caracas, this time to members of an alleged network whose goal was to commercialize Venezuelan crude oil while circumventing US sanctions.

Since his arrival at the White House in 2017, the Trump administration has imposed numerous economic sanctions against Maduro’s executive branch, which he considers “illegal”.

The United States is one of the strongest backs of the Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidor, to which in 2019 recognized as the legitimate president of the Caribbean nation.

The Venezuelan government hopes that Democrat Joe Biden’s new administration, which will take over the US presidency tomorrow, Wednesday have ‘glimpses of decency’, comply with international law and establish “diplomatic channels for respectful dialogue”.
