One killed in frontal accident with DUI suspect leaving traffic stop in Gardena – NBC Los Angeles

A DUI suspect who drove away from a traffic stop collided with another car at a nearby intersection, killing the driver in a head-on crash in Gardena on Tuesday night.

The accident was reported around 10:30 pm near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Western Boulevard. It took place shortly after police stopped a reckless driver.

The driver left the high-speed traffic station as officers approached, then crashed into a sedan, police said. The driver of the sedan, identified as a 60-year-old man, died on the spot.

Details of the victim’s identity were not immediately available.

A 19-year-old man – the driver of the other car – was arrested on suspicion of DUI, car theft, evasion and vehicular murder. He was hospitalized, but details of his condition were not immediately available.
