Ohtani’s return to the hill seems imminent

ANAHEIM – Angels star Shohei Ohtani held a 30-pitch bullpen session on the hill on Saturday at Angel Stadium and will be re-evaluated on Sunday to determine if he will start his next start. Angels manager Joe Maddon said such an outing could take place as early as Tuesday against the Rangers.

Ohtani made only one start this season, on April 4, against the White Sox, dealing with a blister on the middle finger of his right hand. But Ohtani threw a 10-step bullpen session on Monday before throwing 23 balls on Wednesday. On Saturday he threw his finger unprotected; a good sign for Ohtani, who was reviewed by athletics coach Adam Nevela after exercise and determined there were no problems.

“I heard everything went very well,” Maddon said. “They checked his finger and Adam said he looked good. Tomorrow we will decree the plans “.

Ohtani, 26, managed to continue playing a hitter designated without problems so far this season and started hot. As of Saturday, he hits .333 / .370 / .706 with four homers, three doubles, two triples and 12 RBIs in 13 games.
