Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day expects QB Justin Fields to play CFP

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Monday that he expects defender Justin Fields to play in the national title game against Alabama on Monday night.

Fields had a shot on his side at the end of the first half against Clemson in the semifinals of the Allstate Sugar Bowl college football playoff, but remained in the game. After that, Fields said he had an injection so he could continue playing, but he suffered every time he threw. He said he did not have a diagnosis for the exact nature of the injury.

On Monday, in a Zoom call, Day will not reveal details about the injury, but said that the state of Ohio will practice as it normally does and that Fields is expected to play in Miami on Monday night.

“Justin is such a competitive guy that he wasn’t going to leave the field,” Day said. “This is just the way it was connected. It was a pretty amazing performance. The next day, my comment to me was that it feels better waking up in the morning than expected. We will continue to work throughout the week and we will have an excellent week of preparation and get ready to play on Monday night. “

Fields threw a Sugar Bowl record with six touchdown passes in the 49-28 victory over the Tigers and had a 385-yard pass.
