What is old is new again. Chipmakers continue to raise the alarm in case of absence continuing until 2021, so Nvidia intends to do so release its stocks older GTX 1050 Ti and RTX 2060 to make up for the global lack of GPUs.

In a statement to PCWorld, which initially broke the news, an Nvidia spokesman confirmed that it will relaunch the GTX 1050 Ti and RTX 2060 to its on-board partners so that they can launch new hardware. The spokesman noted that GPUs “have never been EOL [end-of-lifed]And that Nvidia only “satisfies the market demand, which remains extremely high.”

So why use old graphics cards, no doubt obsolete? While Nvidia amazed everyone last year with its new 3000 series GPUs, the chaos that followed the launch ensured that most people couldn’t get their hands on one. Some of these can be attributed to pandemic global supply chain problems, but graphics card scalpers have exacerbated the problem as robots have coveted GPUs for resale at ridiculous prices. After an alleged RTX 3080 sold for a huge $ 70,000 on eBay, a Gizmodo survey found that the GTX 3080 was in the heart of a legitimate civil war bot during which Angry users have pulled back against scalpers to raise prices and hopefully delete their lists. In October, also Nvidia pushed back the launch of the RTX 3070 to avoid annoying customers.

Conformable PCWorld, tracing older GPUs is a smart move because can be manufactured using established process technology, thus reducing costs. In the case of RTX 2060, a card that supports ray Watching and launching for the first time in 2019, Nvidia ends up spending less while receiving a relatively current GPU in the hands of manufacturers. Meanwhile, the GTX 1050 Ti is considerably older –launched in 2016—but it’s still able to handle less demanding games or meet the needs of newer PC players. Another benefit is the GTX 1050 Ti, which is equipped with older GDDR5 VRAM, making it incompatible with operating with the Ethereum cryptocurrency, which requires more than 4 GB of onboard memory. Because yes, people who are Try to cash the cryptocurrency right now also exacerbating the lack of GPU obtaining newer and more powerful models.

At the same time, this “solution” is not as accessible to consumers as it initially seemed. GTX 1050 Ti launched at $ 140 in 2016, but is currently available online for over $ 200, with some value prices over $ 400. RTX 2060 is even more expensive, sells for over $ 700 when the launch price was $ 350.

The chip deficit is quite disturbing that even the Biden administration undertook to take action. Bloomberg reports that Biden is expected to sign an executive order for a government-wide supply chain review, after leaders in chip companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD wrote to the administration asking for support. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person.

In the meantime, you’ll probably need to keep it a sharp eye on prices and rely on luck. IIf your current setup is ongoing, we recommend try to stay zen about everything for a while longer.
