NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB cards are real and deliver according to leaked photos

MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

There is some new evidence to suggest that NVIDIA is close to launching a new Ampere product and, in particular, the rumored GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, with many rumors, with more memory on board than the non-Ti version. It comes with photos showing pallets of MSI graphics cards ready for shipment from China to the United States.

This is the last in a long line of leaks indicating the imminent launch of a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Another NVIDIA add-on board partner (AIB), Gigabyte, recently listed a dozen custom GeForce RTX 3080 Ti models at the Eurasian Economic Commission, including both factory overclocked and water-cooled variants. And before that, the unannounced Ampere SKU had made cameos on the ASUS and HP websites at various points.

What is particularly interesting about the leaked GeForce RTX 3080 Ti photo you see above, which was posted on Facebook by Lok LOK, is that it looks like the new SKU will have 12 GB of GDDR6X memory, just like what also indicates the latest Gigabyte EEC list. This is according to the label of this alleged transport, which reads “GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X 12G OC”.

This isn’t exactly a cryptic label, but for the avoidance of doubt, MSI is offering a regular Ventus version of the GeForce RTX 3080 called the GeForce RTX 3080 Ventus 3X 10G OC. The last two character sets denote the amount of memory and a factory overclock.

Of course, nothing is certain until the new SKU becomes official. It is worth noting that previous leaks and rumors have linked the Ti model to 20 GB of memory. In an even earlier list with CEE, Gigabyte had registered a bunch of GeForce RTX 3080 Ti cards with model numbers suggesting 20 GB of memory, and ASUS dropped a ROG Strix variant on one of its support pages, from also with 20 GB.

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti shipping label

What does it give? NVIDIA may initially have the opportunity to offer a Ti model with 20 GB of memory, but since then it has changed its plans for whatever reason – cost, availability and / or I don’t really feel the competitive pressure from AMD on top. Plus, it’s not like NVIDIA is having trouble selling every GPU it can make available. Whatever the reason, it’s somewhat disappointing to see that the Ti adds only 2 GB of additional memory compared to the non-Ti version.

It’s the same amount (12 GB) that AMD uses on the Radeon RX 6700 XT, while all three top models – the Radeon RX 6800, 6800 XT and 6900 XT – all have 16 GB of memory. NVIDIA will no doubt use faster GDDR6X memory chips, but if you hope for 20 GB, it looks like this won’t happen.
The alleged shipping label does not disclose other specifications. According to rumors from the past, however, the Ti model will reach 10,240 CUDA cores instead of 8,704, as found on the regular model, along with base and boost clocks of 1,396MHz and 1,695MHz respectively. NVIDIA could justify its launch by adding more Tensor and RT cores, although we’ll have to wait and see.
